Games Media and Public Relations

During my time in games media, I did everything from reporting to deeper analyses to reviews and podcasting. I built a successful games vertical from its infancy, and I take great pride in my work. As a Public Relations Manager, I led communications efforts for multiple games.

I’ve orchestrated global PR campaigns for Risk of Rain 2: Seekers of the Storm, Risk of Rain: Hostile Worlds, and Relic Hunters Legend; crafting strategic key messages, fact sheets, and coverage reports. I also led holistic communications plans and forged relationships with key media in order to elevate each brand.

The following lists of my responsibilities aren’t exhaustive but give you a glimpse at my day-to-day work on each project.

Risk of Rain: Hostile Worlds

  • Spearheaded the planning of its PR campaign leading up to its reveal, testing phase, and eventual sunset.

  • Created key messages, FAQs, and fact sheets.

  • Performed media training with developers.

  • Worked alongside Brand to create holistic communications plans to speak to new and existing audiences.

Risk of Rain 2: Seekers of the Storm

  • Assisted with gameplay capture of developer diaries.

  • Crafted strategic messages to position Seekers of the Storm as the best Risk of Rain expansion yet.

  • Managed external PR agencies to execute global outreach.

  • Took part in playtesting and provided actionable feedback to the development team.

Relic Hunters Legend

  • Developed a preview campaign leading up to its Early Access launch.

  • Constructed a comprehensive preview guide for press, detailing key features.

  • Worked closely with Brazilian developer Rogue Snail to elevate its coverage in Latin America.

  • Collaborated with Influencer, Social Media, and Community teams on a strategic go-to-market plan.

In addition to my work on the games in the section above, I’ve had the pleasure to support and assist with work on a number of titles outside of my direct purview.

Featured Work

Transitioning from journalism to public relations, I started at Gearbox Publishing as a PR Manager. My work involved the strategic planning and execution of communications plans, which I did in collaboration with multifunctional teams across Brand, Community, Influencer, and Social. I primarily worked on Risk of Rain and Relic Hunters Legend. I also supported Borderlands alongside 2K.

Android Central

When I joined Android Central, its games coverage was next to non-existent. I set to work expanding our coverage and built a thriving games vertical that became well-established and respected. We were able to consistently bring in large volumes of readers, contributing to millions of page views in traffic. I commissioned and wrote hundreds of articles, from reviews and guides to reporting.

Windows Central is the sister site of Android Central, and I contributed to its growing games vertical over the years, covering breaking news and leading editorial plans on franchises like Assassin’s Creed. I also attended gameplay events for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Borderlands 3. Additionally, I would often assist with remote event coverage.

My time at CNET was spent behind the scenes copyediting articles for SEO impact, grammar, and linking opportunities. I also analyzed and compiled data that positively influenced SEO and website traffic.

MSPoweruser

At MSPoweruser, I near singlehandedly created all of its gaming content at the time. This often meant covering multiple news stories a day and supplementing this coverage with weekly editorials and analysis of the industry.
